Coffee Talk #166: Energy Flows

It’s Tuesday! Grab your cup and let’s start chattin’.

If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I have three months left in my Yoga Teacher Training certification. Three! It’s been an amazing experience, and I definitely have an itch to take it to the next level. I’m so excited to unlock even more knowledge and understanding of yoga.

With that in mind, if we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that we’re learning a lot about the chakra system. In short, you have an energy system that flows through different points in the body, rotating upward in a spiral (more? root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, crown). Each energy ‘center’ or chakra can get blocked, which causes the function of all the other chakras to fall off balance. You can align your energy centers through a variety of ways — meditation, focus, yoga postures, movement, breathing, and more.

If I’m being totally honest (which is my goal here, with you), I’d tell you that before I got really into my yoga practice, I kind of thought energy and healing and chakras were a little out there. Like, who needs to think about those things or worry about them? Spoiler: everyone. You do. I do. We do.

Energy is literally everything. You can control your energy. You have the power to do that, isn’t that amazing? As a fitness professional, I’ve been “charged” by energy since day one. I know it’s a powerful feeling, to have your heart racing, to share a moment with someone in class, before class, during class, to achieve a new level, to uncover something hidden deep inside you. And it’s something I want everyone to learn how to access within themselves.

Coming to fitness classes is a great way to share and access energy. Dancing and moving the body are also excellent ways to open some of the chakras. Building community and being part of something can help keep the energy flowing, too.

Truthfully, anywhere you direct focus will produce/share/create energy. Energy flows where your intention goes. If you direct intentional focus toward something, you’ll find energy for it. With it being January, and a time of year that many like to set goals or intentions for the year, this should be excellent news to hear! You can literally accomplish anything with the right amount of intention or focus.

Where are you focusing your energy in 2020? It’s not too late to join Prepare to Launch to share your goals, intentions, and focus!
