2014 in Review

This is one of my favorite posts to write each year (here’s 2013 in review, for fun). I’m not always a fan of ‘looking back’ — I much prefer looking ahead. But I think it’s important to understand where you’ve been in order to fully grasp where you’re going.

So, here’s my 2014 in review: full of love, blissful moments, an insane amount of fitness classes, and tons of yoga.

The highlights:

FAMILY

– Johnny and I got engaged! I don’t think anything else would be more fitting to start my 2014 list.  This was the sweetest part of my year. Read more about the romantic proposal in Yellowstone National Park.

TRAVEL

– We spent our first trip away together in Concord, Massachusetts. This was Johnny’s Christmas gift last year — I love, love, love giving experience gifts.

– I planned a romantic NYC Valentine’s Day getaway, and sent Johnny on a scavenger hunt to figure it out!

– My first Thanksgiving Parade in NYC. I had a whimsical idea to go to NYC for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Johnny was game!

– We visited Savannah, Georgia for a long July 4 weekend. Such fun — Savannah is my favorite southern city.

– Work took me to Jackson, Wyoming, and Johnny tagged along!

– I visited Texas for the first time for work – Houston and Dallas.

– Work also took me back to Colorado! I visited Colorado Springs for the first time, and returned to my beloved Boulder. My friend Carly tagged along for the ride!

FITNESS

– A deepened yoga practice. Just as 2013 was the year of running (epic races!), 2014 was the year of yoga. I temporarily hung up my running shoes and rolled out my mat (posting daily on instagram). I found tons of strength I didn’t know I had, and continue to build on that today. I don’t see myself slowing down with yoga in 2015. But I do see running picking back up

– I took Johnny on a few hiking adventures. I love the Appalachian Trail, and it felt so good to get back out there. One of our hikes even took us all the way to Wyoming!

– I celebrated FIVE YEARS of teaching group fitness. I can’t believe it!

– I taught (ready for this) 150 Insanity classes, 110 PiYo Live classes, 94 Zumba classes, and 29 Turbo Kick classes this year. That’s a grand total of 383 classes. WOW!

PiYo Live became the class of the year for me — classes are packed, people are seeing results, and it’s really taken off since I started teaching it almost three years ago!

LIVING

– I joined the Colchester Farm CSA Board in 2014 as the secretary. We’re a local community supported agriculture organization in Kent County, MD. Our mission is to grow fresh local produce for shareholders and community members, and offer apprenticeships and education programs. The CSA promotes an alternative model of farming that strengthens the relationship between farmers, community members, food, and the land.

I started hosting parties again! I love meaningful get-togethers, like craft nights. There’s nothing more amazing to me than bringing together some of my favorite people and doing something I love (like…working out! or crafting!).

– I moved. Twice. Once for what I’m expecting will be the last move for a long time.

Looking forward to many more adventures in 2015!
